An Employment Visa is granted to foreign nationals who intend to travel to India for the purpose of employment.

Validity:

The visa validity depends on the employment category and the terms of the employment contract. Typically, a visa is granted for up to one year, which may be extended within India as per applicable rules.

How To Apply

  1. Create an Account: Register on the Du Digital Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website.

  2. Fill Out the Government Application Form: Click here to access the form.
  3. Book an Appointment: Schedule your visit to Du Digital ICAC by choosing a suitable date and time.

  4. Prepare Your Documents: Carry your passport, photographs, and all supporting documents as listed in the Documents Checklist section.
  5. Visit Du Digital ICAC: Visit the designated ICAC. The address and location will be mentioned in your appointment letter. Ensure you arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time.
  6. Submit Your Application & Pay Fees: Submit your documents and pay the applicable fees at ICAC. Refer to the Fee Details section for exact charges.
  7. Enroll for Biometrics (if required): Complete biometric enrollment if applicable.
  8. Application Submission Complete: You’ve successfully submitted your visa application.
  9. Track Your Application: Monitor your application’s status online.

Employment Visa – Document Requirements

Refer to the list below for the documents required for an Employment Visa:

For All Applicants:

  • Completed visa application form
  • Two recent colour photographs (2 x 2 inches) with white background
  • Two copies of the passport bio page
  • One copy of Thai ID card (for Thai nationals)
  • One copy of house registration (for Thai nationals)
  • Copy of name/surname change document translated into English and attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Thailand
    (Original attested copy must be submitted)
  • Company profile of the employer in India
  • Certificate of Incorporation of the Indian company
  • Copy of all pages of Thai visa (for foreign nationals)
  • Copy of Thai work permit
    Note: Foreign nationals must show a work permit in Thailand valid for more than 2 years.
  • Employment contract with the Indian company:
    • Basic salary must be more than 25,000 USD per year (in US dollars only)
    • Must include job details and insurance information
  • Request letter from the Indian company addressed to the Embassy of India, Bangkok, stating:
    • Duration of employment
    • Complete address of the company in India
    • Confirmation that no Indian national is available for the said position
  • Proof of educational qualifications and professional expertise
    (Documents issued by Thai authorities must be translated into English and attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand. For non-Thai documents, translations must be attested by the respective country’s MFA. Original attestation is mandatory.)
  • Experience certificate (if available)
  • Legal documents:
    • Proof of tax liability (Form 16) if previously held an Employment Visa
    • Copy of previous Employment Visa
  • Proof of permanent residence in Thailand for more than 2 years
  • In case of Translator / Spa / Chef positions:
    • Basic salary of more than 25,000 USD per year (in US dollars only)
    • Contract must be attested by the Thai Embassy in India and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)
    • Submit documents for verification before applying
  • Flight reservation ticket and address of intended stay in India (if available)
  • Original passport with at least 1-year validity and minimum two blank pages
  • Job advertisement or job opening notification from Indian company
  • Transfer letter from Thai company (If transferring from Thailand to India, include a letter stating the transfer purpose and destination)
  • Salary breakup / CTC (Cost to Company)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. Who qualifies for an Employment Visa to India?
    Foreign nationals offered skilled employment or consultancy roles with Indian entities, voluntary NGO workers, foreign faculty, sports professionals, chefs, interpreters, and other specialists.
  2. Is there a salary requirement?
    Yes. Most applicants must earn a minimum of USD 25,000 per year. Exceptions include language teachers, NGO volunteers, and certain special categories like academic staff at South Asian University/Nalanda University.
  3. Can I take up a job in an NGO?
    Yes. Honorary work is allowed under this visa. You may receive an honorarium up to INR 10,000/month, but no formal salary.
  4. Can I work with multiple employers on one visa?
    No. Employment Visa is granted only for the organization mentioned in your application. Work for other entities is not permitted.
  5. Can I bring my family on this visa?
    Yes. Your spouse and children can apply for a Dependent Visa, valid for the same duration as your Employment Visa.
  6. What documents are required for application?

  1. Do I need to register in India after arrival?
    Yes, if your stay is more than 180 days. You must register with the FRRO/FRO within 14 days of your arrival.
  2. Can I apply without an appointment?
    No. Submission must be done by prior appointment at the authorized DU Digital Global Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC).
  3. When should I apply?
    It is advised to apply well in advance of your intended travel date, allowing time for document review, interview (if needed), and processing.
