Medical Visa

Overview

  • Applicant granted a particular type of Visa is required to strictly adhere to the purpose of the visit declared by him/her. Any violation of Visa category may attract appropriate legal action or deportation.
  • A Medical visa is given to those who are travelling to India for a medical treatment. Please note that relevant letters/documents explaining details of the treatment, signed and stamped by the concerned hospitals/doctors are required to validate the purpose of travel.
  • A Medical Dependent Visa is granted to those who are accompanying a patient travelling to India for a medical treatment on a Medical Visa. This visa can be given to a close relative/family member or a friend of the patient. Please note that relevant letters/documents explaining details of the treatment, signed and stamped by the concerned hospitals/doctors, a declaration from the patient or an immediate family member is also required confirming the escort travel along with the patient.
  • The applicant will be invited in person for an interview and the duration of Visa will be decided after the interview.
  • Please note that the duration of the visa is at the sole discretion of the Issuing Authority and the validity of the visa begins from the date of issue and not from the date of travel on your application form.
  • Within 14 days of arrival, all foreigners visiting India on long term (more than 180 days) Visa are required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned having jurisdiction over the place where the foreigner intends to stay.

  5. Visit Du Digital ICAC: Visit the designated ICAC (as per your jurisdiction). The address and location will be mentioned in your appointment letter. Ensure you arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time.
  6. Submit Your Application & Pay Fees: Submit your documents and pay the applicable fees at ICAC. Refer to the Fee Details section for exact charges.
  7. Enroll for Biometrics (if required): Complete biometric enrollment if applicable.
  8. Application Submission Complete: You’ve successfully submitted your visa application.
  9. Track Your Application: Monitor your application’s status online.

    Foreign nationals traveling to India for specialized treatment at a recognized hospital, such as organ transplant, heart surgery, neurology, or cancer treatment.
  2. Can a family member or friend accompany the patient?
    Yes. Close relatives or friends can apply for a Medical Attendant Visa (MED-X). A declaration from the patient and supporting hospital documentation are required.
  3. How long is the Medical Visa valid?
    Typically, for up to one year with a maximum of three entries. The actual duration is determined after reviewing the case and documents.
  4. Is registration with Indian authorities required upon arrival?
    Yes, if the visa is valid for more than 180 days, registration with FRRO/FRO within 14 days of arrival is mandatory.
  5. Do minor children accompanying the patient need a separate visa?
    Yes. They can be granted an Entry (X) Visa that matches the duration of the patient’s Medical Visa.

  9. Can I use a Medical Visa for wellness or general health check-ups?
    No. The Medical Visa is strictly for serious, specialized treatment. For wellness or alternative therapies, a Tourist Visa may be appropriate.
