A Journalist Visa is issued to foreign media professionals who intend to visit India for journalistic, documentary, editorial, or promotional work. This includes those working in print, broadcast, digital media, or producing audio-visual content that covers news, documentaries, travel, or current affairs.

The visa is generally granted for a short duration (up to 3 months) and may be extended in special cases upon approval. This visa requires prior coordination with the Embassy of India’s Press Office and an in-person interview during the application process.

  • Visa validity begins from the date of issue, not from the date of travel.
  • Application processing may take up to 2 months — apply well in advance.
  • An interview at the Embassy of India is mandatory, and additional documents may be requested.
  • Visa is usually granted for up to 3 months. Longer durations require justification and special approval.

  7. Enroll for Biometrics (if required): Complete biometric enrollment if applicable.
