General Information on Film Visa

The Film Visa is granted to foreign nationals coming to India for the purpose of filming feature films, reality shows, TV/web series, or commercial productions. This visa is applicable to cast and crew members of international productions and official co-productions approved by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MoI&B), Government of India.

All filming activities must follow the script and plan approved by Indian authorities. Public release or exhibition of the content without government permission is strictly prohibited.

Important:
Applicants must strictly adhere to the filming purpose as declared in the visa application. Deviations may result in visa cancellation, blacklisting, or legal action.

Who Can Apply?
You are eligible to apply for a Film Visa if you are:

• A member of the cast or crew (director, actor, cinematographer, etc.) involved in shooting a feature film, TV/web series, or commercial production in India.
• Involved in official international co-productions approved by MoI&B.
• Filming a documentary or non-fiction production, subject to additional scrutiny.

Key Guidelines:

• Visa validity is at the sole discretion of the Indian Embassy and begins from the date of issue, not the travel date.
• For stays longer than 6 months, registration with FRRO/FRO is mandatory.
• If total stay exceeds 6 months in a calendar year, registration is also required—even with multiple short visits.
• Film Visa processing time may be longer than other categories, especially for documentaries (up to 8 weeks).
• All applicants must book a prior appointment at the DU Digital Global Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) for submission.
• Biometric enrolment is required at the time of application.

7. Do I need to register in India after arrival?
   Yes, if your stay exceeds 6 months or if your aggregate stay in India within a calendar year crosses 6 months, you must register with the FRRO/FRO within 2 weeks after that period.


8. What is the processing time for a Film Visa?
   Processing may take longer than standard visas, especially for documentary filmmakers—up to 8 weeks after submission of a complete application.


9. Where should I submit my application?
   You must schedule an appointment and apply through the DU Digital Global ICAC in your jurisdiction. Walk-in submissions are not accepted.
